Why? I do it in the morning. I light the candles around my house. Since having kids the candles are now up high, I can still enjoy them, see them, smell them. Focus.
For me a candle is something I’ve used since I was a kid. Don’t freak on me just yet. Going to Catholic schools we lit candles in church almost daily. As a teen I had one in my bedroom (my mother was trusting, and as a candle junkie herself she taught me how to take care of, and be safe with fire)
Candles calm me.
Something wicked. I can be stressed. Like I am every morning, with dogs barking, cats meowing, kids whining, phone ringing, and all I want is some coffee, Facebook time, and possible a good blog post.
After a few hours of feeding everyone, tending to children, and finally getting everyone settled into something that doesn’t involve me. If it’s a day I’m home for more then a few hours. The candles get lit.
I stare into the flame. I watch the wax melt. I’ve had fancy once, that are expensive, now don’t get me wrong as much as I’ve tried others, so far Yankee is still my fav.
There are also the Walmart brand ones, now talk about a price difference, for a buck you can get a nice small candle that will smell great! I don’t do soy. They just don’t smell for me.
I also have seasonal smells. For winter I love pine, (Spaghetti hates that one) or peppermint.
Spring I have clean sheets, or a linen one. Maybe a citrus. Fall is of coarse the warmer spices, and coffee scents. I also love Midsummers Night Dream, smells like a mans cologne. Mmmm.
So after a crazy 3 hours of screaming kids, whining kids, barking dogs, (barfing dogs) and the normal crazy of a day. I light my candles, I sit. I blog. I drink my coffee. I breathe.
Because a very wise friend of mine said to me. “Gack. Just remember. All you have to do in this life is breathe. Just. Breathe”
That my friends gets me through those tough days. Happy Sunday everyone, and happy Valentines weekend!
xoxo
Feisty
