A letter to my 16 year old self.

Kelly over at Speaking From The Crib gave me a prompt to write a letter to my 16 year old self. I would also like to imagine that she is hiding in the hall closet (like they did on Back to the Future)

The year was 1994, it was 15 years ago. The girl back then with long blonde hair, and bangs. Who was a WHOLE 98 (holy shit) yes 98 lbs. She would be shocked at the fact that there are two BIG boxers sniffing around the closet, and she would wonder were all the cats and lizards were. (I swore I would have a ton of cats, being raised with them, and my 16 year old self would also wonder where my box turtle, Helmit, my Iguana, Charlie, my leopard gecko, Savanna, and my white dumpy tree frog, Ruby all are)

I would tell her that the Disney movie Aladdin would still be one of her favorites, but Tinkerbell is now her all time favorite.

I would tell her that she is on the right track on trying to be an individual. That being silly and goofy is who she is and not to let others tell her different. And when her mom says don't grow up so fast. She was right. And you will be glad you listened. That you still played with toys when you were in High School, and your friends enjoyed a night of Lego's all while jamming to 99.9 the Bus.

You would tell her to get contact information on her friend Yi, who would move away the next year. And even with all the technology of today, still can not find her. Same goes for Nikki P. two friends who were some of the first who showed you that being yourself is what they loved most about you.

You would tell her that that boy. Joe. The one your about to date for the next 4 1/2 years. He's a good guy. And dating him probably kept you a good girl longer then you would have been, but don't dismiss your family for his. And I hate to poo poo on your parade, but he ain't "the one"
Trust your instincts on that one.

Trust your instincts on yourself. You did the right thing by not ever smoking. It's a nasty habit that your friends still can't kick.

Enjoy Halloween and Christmas Night with your mom's family. If only you knew you only had a few of those left.

I would tell that her love for art and crafts is at at an all time high. That she will become a demonstrator for a rubber stamp company and it will be her longest held job to date!

And all while standing in that hall closet she would look into the front tv room and she would tear up at the site of the children. Seeing a little blonde boy and girl who closely resemble herself.

And then she will realize that this is her home. What seems to be a well established home. Where she cooks, cleans, still seems to have an issue with laundry, makes a mental note to ditch the clutter, but realizes that she is happy.

She will see herself walk by and wonder what the fuck is going on with her future hair. And WOW did all that pizza and macaroni catch up with her! Yikes. Having babies and being a housewife comes at a cost of 35 pounds! Well she would think at least she's got a bigger rack.

When the tall handsome man comes through the door, she gasps at the sight of her husband. A big warm smile on her face appears knowing that she will be alright.

Oh and just a note to you my dear 16 year old self. You are your mothers daughter. You may not like her rules, you may not like her much at all right now. But you are her. You will be SO much like your mother it's scary.
But you love it.
And are proud to be just. like. her.
