Time management. And my personal reason to scream.

Here you go readers. If you are in any want to organize as a busy mom, SAH or a working mom, these books kick major organizing butt! The Organized Life is great, it is one of my favorites because there are only a few words on a page. The best way to see what I am talking about is visit this book on Amazon and click on the image to view a few pages. Reading like this is easy, not to much, and to the point. It's a good reminder of why you need to get organized.
Now onto the book I am currently rereading (obviously the first time around didn't work out so well I was pregnant with Alex and wanted to organize but just had the energy to go through a drive through for breakfast burritos at McD's and Starbucks then home again)

Anywho, I am excited about this book. It breaks things down into the problem, then the solution.
And she hits on one thing that I have found to be my problem. It's not motivation, or being to busy. It's my time management. I probably could have saved my self some money and just listened to my mom who has been telling me it's my time management all along.
The story that she write about in this book is SO true. She talks about women who don't work and the ones who don't have young children at home. (my personal favorite is those who don't have any children at all) and you hear that their excuse for being unorganized is "I just don't have the time" I too like the author have to hold back my scream!
They're last minute shoppers for gifts, and food for dinner, and they just can't get their paper work into piles. They have projects that the have been meaning to get to but just can't. These are not lazy people. They are constantly moving and doing, but they never seem to accomplish an end result. The problem is they don't have a schedule or a plan to achieve goals.
The solution from the author is that time management boils down to two things: planning and finding balance. A mom who plans her time carefully can achieve balance between:
  • household chores
  • being a mom and being a wife
  • family time and personal time

She says that this balance will bring happiness and contentment to your life. Sounds ideal, I know, but they say it is possible. She says that balance is the key and if you want it to happen you have to plan it! Most things don't happen by accident.

Now jumping over to flylady Kelly and her morning routine, mixed with Debbie Lillard (Absolutely Organized) they both say that a good morning routine is key. I agree, and have been trying my best to get out of bed flying! I have been trying to get up an hour before everyone else and I go straight for the bathroom. Pee, wash my face, shower, brush my teeth. Shoes on, dressed (were talking sweats and a t-shirt most days) house shoes, and down stairs to feed the dogs, cats, and pour coffee, and set up the bottle, and breakfast. (If Spaghetti is going to work his day job, I work more making his breakfast, and ironing clothes. Otherwise he is just sleeping from the night shift job)

I am trying to add in working out first thing in the morning, I am a morning person, so that is my best time to do it. I need to do that first, then up to the bathroom and continue from there. I feel better when I work out and do my morning routine.

That leads me to the night routine. Flylady Kelly insists on a shiny sink before bed. And it is true, if the dishes are done, and coffee is made for the morning, it is SO much easier to start the day! I am even trying to pack diaper bags, and get things together if we have a busy day ahead the next day.

I make our bed, open the blinds (sun or not) and take down anything that doesn't belong in our room too. Little things like this are helping me get this house together. I have to get to the point here, I guess if your looking for a great book to read while your pooping in your daily "me" time, check out either of these.

I will be back with more from my books. Off to organize!

Oh, and to address your REAL post, organized??? What's that? I try, I really do try, but I'm only one person with 6 kids following me with their wrecking crews behind me. It's a losing battle!

I can't READ about getting organized. 1st I have to make a list of what I need to organize and I just start checking it off.

There's no way I could READ about it without developing a twitch.
